Udupi, Oct 13: People of Ankudru-Guddabettu in Moodubelle village have finally had their dreams of getting good road connectivity fulfilled after a long wait.

Guddabettu a place which was much neglected by the leaders finally caught their attention. Ankudru-Guddabettu road was last repaired around 13 years ago. Gradually the road dilapidated and the locals found it hard to undertake travel.

Daijiworld.com on February 18 this year published a piece of detailed news explaining the plight of the locals here. The report caught the eyes of the local politicians who took over the works of fixing the road in the area.

Guddabettu has more than 50 households with many elderly and sick people residing in the area. Local people had requested the authorities including the gram panchayat, the MLA and other officials to provide them with good road facility. The poor road connectivity along with disappointing street light facility during the night was becoming troublesome for the residents.

After understanding their ordeal, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon assured the locals of providing a new concrete road. On Tuesday, October 13 Mendon inaugurated the newly constructed concrete road, which will serve as a major connecting point between Ankudru and Moodubelle. This road has been constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lac.

People of the area have also urged the MLA to provide them with good street light facility along with requesting him to extend the Ankudru road towards Pambur. A dam was also built a few years back in Ankudru, giving rise to a possibility of constructing a bridge here and thereby extending the road to create connectivity to the Pambur area.

Locals had also submitted many petitions and requests to authorities, officials for good roads. Following which a team of locals had also met the concerned ministers in Bengaluru. The people of Guddabettu-Ankudru area had even decided to boycott the gram panchayat elections if their demand were not fulfilled.

Wilson Rodrigues zilla panchayat member Shilpa Suvarna taluk panchayat member and locals were present on the occasion.

First of all thank you very much Daijiworld, for covering the pathetic condition of our road earlier.

You helped us to escalate our protest, that made our case strong and now we got the road.

Like wise we need your and everyone's support for our next demands, street light and a bridge to Paapanshini River to connect to Pamboor...

Yes. I think, it is the impact of Daijiworld's published plight of locals due to long pending dilapidated road. Our wives sometimes, persistently ask us to do something, which we just neglect as nagging. But, when same thing is brought to our attention by our sister or neighbor's wife, then only we realize what our wives were telling was right. Till then, things are going on as usual, why take botheration, is our attitude.

There again, there are no pavements and drainage foreseen on either side of
the new concrete road, which is hazardous for pedestrian using this road. I
sometimes wonder how such jobs are given out and by whom, without a proper
design factor. Plus the fact that it takes 13 years in Udupi to get a basic need
met - that a local MLA was finally able to understand their need and ordeal!
