Bengaluru, Oct 12: Due to the fall in atmospheric pressure over the Bay of Bengal, most parts of Karnataka are likely to get heavy rainfall for the next three days, as per the prediction made by the meteorological department.
The depression has been particularly strong near the Andaman and this may build into a cyclone. Therefore, most parts of Karnataka may experience heavy rainfall from October 12 to 14, the department stated. The rainfall might be particularly heavy in coastal districts, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The north interior parts of the state too are expected to get rainfall during the said period in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Bagalkot, Yadagiri, Raichur, Vijayapura, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri. Rain coupled with thunder is predicted. An orange alert has been issued for these regions.
South interior Karnataka too will experience widespread rainfall. Bengaluru, in particular, is likely to get heavy rain during the next 24 hours. States like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Maharashtra states too are expected to be affected by rains.
With the monsoon extending beyond September, moderate to heavy rain continue to lash many parts of Karnataka, flooding low-laying areas and disrupting normal life, an official said on Monday.
Very heavy rainfall (14cm) was recorded at Hukkeri in Belagavi district, 13 cm at Hungund in Bagalkot district, 10cm at Khajuri in Kalaburagi district and 9cm at Bevoor in Koppal district during the last 24 hours.
For the second consecutive year, the southwest monsoon from June-September has been very good for Karnataka, with 27 per cent excess rainfall.
Though the monsoon normally withdraws from the region by the third or fourth week of September, cloud formation and surface winds brought widespread rains in the state's coastal, central and south interior areas over the last 10 days.
Owing to squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50kmph along the state's west coast, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea till Wednesday.
Monsoon was vigorous over the north interior areas of the state. Rainfall occurred in the coastal region and in many places across the south interior parts of the state.
