Panaji: 'CM agrees not to penalize road tax defaults' - Michael Lobo

Panaji, Oct 10: Waste management minister Michael Lobo said that chief minister Pramod Sawant has agreed to amend the Goa, Daman and Diu Motor Vehicles Tax Act and waive off penalties on annual road tax for passenger vehicles also the vehicle owners who have paid the penalties while paying the road tax would be reimbursed.

"The chief minister has agreed to bring an amendment and to reimburse the fines," Lobo said.

Lobo told reporters, "The transport department moved a file for the amendment of the law which went upto the law and the finance departments, and the chief secretary. Now it is with the chielf minister. The transport department says that the finance department is not agreeing to the amendment. The chief minister has assured to clear the proposal and orders would be issued to reimburse the fine."

He further said, "We have urged the chief minister to hold a meeting with the finance department and the chief secretary to introduce a proposal at the next cabinet meeting about this amendment."

He also said that the Union government has issued a circular stating there was no need to pay the registration fee and road tax in view of the lockdown.
