Panaji, Oct 9: Chief minister Pramod Sawant approved the setting up of four integrated dry waste management facilities and bio-digester plants having a cumulative capacity of 15 tonne per day. Rs 23 crore was sanctioned for the project at Sonsoddo.
Michael Lobo, minister for waste management said that three more will be added after the setting up of the first four plants.
The Goa waste management corporation (GWMC) received the approval from Margao Municipal Council (MMC) at a special meeting to set up seven bio-digester plants at Sonsoddo to treat waste generated in Margao.
GWMC had proposed upgradation of the MMC's waste management facilities in two phases. The proposal included the setting up of integrated dry waste management facility and bio-digester plants. Nearly 60 tonne of waste is generated each day at Margao comprising 18-22 tonne of dry waste, 14-18 tonne of wet waste and 20-28 tonne of mixed waste.
