Mangaluru, Oct 8: Online frauds are on the rise all over the country and unfortunately educated people are turning victims of online frauds. The public needs to be alert before falling prey to such frauds.
There are several instances where people fall prey to online frauds and went on to lose lacs of rupees. They even hesitate to come forward to lodge a complaint to cyber police.
Recently, journalist Dayanand Kukkaje of Daijiworld received a notification from a fake Snapdeal URL which said that he has won a Swift car and he should pay Rs 4,150 to get himself registered.
A caller speaking in Hindi was continuously calling Dayanand who is a regular customer of Snapdeal since several years. The caller had created a fake Snapdeal site which looked identical to the original Snapdeal site.
Dayanand is a regular customer of online shopping site. The caller had extracted all the details Dayanand had ordered from the online shopping site. Public should be alert whenever they get messages regard to winning any contest as the hackers easily morph the original online sites. This makes people easily fall prey to online frauds.
Dayanand was alert that it was a fake offer from Snapdeal and he immediately complained Snapdeal customer service for further action.
Snapdeal immediately responded stating, "I wish to inform you that the offer mentioned by you in your communication is not from Snapdeal, and appears to be a scam. Please do not respond to any such phone call/email/SMS claiming to offer rewards/lucky draw prizes on behalf of Snapdeal. We, at Snapdeal, never request our customers for unsolicited financial information or advance payments in exchange for rewards. Moreover, all our offers are published and available only through our website and mobile apps."
