Bengaluru: Lockdown woes - Bus owners surrendering buses to transport department

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Oct 6: Owners of buses who are worried over running the buses on the roads because of the acute shortage of passengers have surrendered over 12,000 buses to the transport department during the last four months.

People prefer to use their own vehicles because of fear of contracting coronavirus infection. This has resulted in drastic reduction in the number of people using buses for travel. Many are working from home. Therefore, bus owners are lining up to surrender their buses to the transport department. The bus owners can save the road tax they have to pay every three months, if they provide records about the suspension of bus operation and surrender all the records including registration certificate to the transport department. Tax savings can be anywhere from Rs 48,000 to Rs two lac.

President of Karnataka Bus Owners Union K Rajavarma Ballal said that the bus owners have already lost a lot because of coronavirus. "The buses which could collect Rs 8,000 everyday are not even able to reach Rs 4,000 figure now. The money so collected is not even enough to meet the fuel bill. The bus owners have no other option but to surrender their buses," he said.

Ballal also pointed out that as per the standard operating procedure of the state government, not more than 50 percent of passenger capacity can be carried in vehicles. He therefore pointed out that it is very difficult to operate the buses.

Karnataka Tourist Vehicles Owners Association president Radhakrishna Holla said that even taxi owners are selling their vehicles. He urged the government to serve the interests of the taxi owners.

    My dear brother,

Trains cancelled due to no passengers. No body bear losses.

Private bus owners struggling to give service to people as well as to maintain services.

You just go through the Private office staff and Govt office staff. Private for lessor salary they give more services for more working hours. customers are boss for them. In Govt offices less time, less working hours. Customers are burden for them.

"Owners of buses who are worried over running the buses on the roads because of the acute shortage of passengers have surrendered over 12,000 buses to the transport department during the last four months".....it may be better to surrender all the buses to the Government unless they of all the road taxes for the lockdown plus another six months.

It's impossible & doesn't make sense to run any business without even breaking even unless you are backed by powerful financiers or corrupt politicians who can make you sail through the troubled times, which no one knows when it will end!

BTW many hotels & restaurants have closed permanently as they cannot generate enough money to pay rentals!

If a second wave erupts then majority of business will crumble down for sure, hope for the best!

Very Bad Luck for this State Govt. as well as utterly Failed Central Govt. & illiterate Pradhan Sevak. They were busy with toppling Democratically elected state Govt.s and in the end, everything is ruined by one simple COVID-19 Virus from nature as perfect punishment. It's perfect nature's punishment.

Oh... Oh... Till today they were saying buses were running at loss and hence demand in the increase in fares. Fares were not sufficient and they were citing reasons of change of tyre/salaries etc. My question is there was a need to change the tyre everyday? They were increasing the fare.. But, were they increasing the salaries?? Today confessed truly they were earning 8,000/- per day more than that during festivals etc). See, from where to where great corona made them to say the truth....abusive talks /rash behaviour/ inhumanity towards elders/competition/ not giving proper time to climb and get down.. If getting down little late, showers of praises on that person/ unnecessary usage of brakes.... My goodness...very very few bus employees were good..may god bless them.....I would like to recall that comment written by Deshwasi, Bharat on another news of this portal.... Well said

Felix, Mangalore, My dear Felix brother. Why you didnot go to flight if the bus fare is more than the flight it goes faster also. YOu save time know.

Do you know the flight charges for season 10 times more than un season.

Whole un season buses run with shortage of passengers. Some times there will be 25% passengers. They had to pay tax and pay driver, conductors etc. They had to put fuel.

People prefer train other days and if the train seats not available then they need buses. How to cover up the losses. They had to raise the fare for weekend. You are responsible for that. No bus owners. If the fare is very high do not travel on that day. Travel other day. Only two days fare will be high.

    Dear Shivaprasad / Subhash Chandra

I strongly disagree for your comments.

Now not only the bus owners are facing the problem due to COVID 19 but the whole world is suffering. How come the bus owners looted during the peak season. There is a fixed rate for certain distance. If you had noticed any looting, you could have complained to the authorities.

Have you ever noticed the rude behavior of the Government bus drivers and conductors. Even they dont know to speak the local languages like Tulu.

You should respect the drivers and the conductors who start their duty from 6 am until 10 pm in the night. They too have families. There are different kinds of passengers with different mentalities.

Even the Government is not supporting the bus owners. They hesitate to waive of the tax.

You should understand that the private buses creates lots of job opportunities.
