Cinema halls to open on Oct 15 with 50% occupancy: Union minister Javadekar

New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS): With just nine days remaining for the cinema halls across the country to open, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday announced standard operating protocols (SOPs), saying the halls will function with only 50 per cent occupancy.

The cinema halls are set to open on October 15.

Addressing a press conference here, Javadekar said, "Ministry has issued SOPs to all the multiplexes and single screen theatres today. Only 50 per cent occupancy of the seats will be allowed inside the auditorium. And seats to remain vacant should be marked properly."

He said, no exhibition of film shall be allowed in containment zones.

Javadekar said that adequate physical distancing of at least six feet has to be followed outside the auditoriums, common areas and waiting areas at all times.

The Minister said that "spitting" shall be strictly prohibited in the multiplex or theatres.

He further stressed on the staggered show timings, which need to be followed for multiple screens to avoid crowding.

He also said that the theatres need to collect the mobile number at the time of booking of tickets to facilitate contact tracing.

Javadekar said theatres need to promote digital bookings, while single screen theatres need to open more booking windows to avoid crowding. "The booking counters need to remain open throughout the day and advance booking to be allowed to avoid overcrowding at the box office," he said.

Laying the guidelines, the Minister said that only packaged food and beverages will be allowed and no delivery should be made in the auditorium. And, there should be multiple counters for food and beverages, he said.

He also said that a one-minute short film needs to be shown before and after the show to spread awareness about Covid-19. Javadekar further said that a face mask is mandatory and the provision for thermal screening and hand sanitisers should be in place at the entry and exit points of the theatre. The theatre also needs to ensure that it is sanitised after every show and proper hand gloves, PPE kits and boots are provided to the staff members.

Pointing out at the temperature inside the theatre, he said, the temperature needs to be maintained between 23-30 degree Celsius. He also said that provisions for proper ventilation should be made in the theatre.

The cinema halls across the country have been shut since March 22 amid the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic cases. The single screen theatres and multiplexes are opening after a gap of almost six months.

    Sir,
Same guidelines issued to bars & pubs that they will run at 50% capacity but the actual scenario is they are running at 100% capacity with smoking allowed due to pent up demand by rich tipplers & students with easy money!
Greedy bar owners are flouting all rules with no authority to enforce rules, pathetic state of affairs!
Such announcements make no sense unless they are implemented at ground level!
The infection has not yet peaked out & opening of congested places will allow it to flourish!

Covid 19 Virus is a invisible killer and no one can guarantee when and how it will attack humans.
Especially, senior and diabetic/high BP and heart problem people are most vulnerable to catch the common cold type of virus and succumb to deadly virus. God forbid.
Please exercise care and caution. If life is spared we can see another day but for the being no harm in sacrificing few things in life.

Washington, Oct 6 (IANS): In its latest update, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that Covid-19 transmission can occur in poorly ventilated and enclosed spaces.

In a statement released on Monday, the CDC said: "Today's update acknowledges the existence of some published reports showing limited, uncommon circumstances where people with Covid-19 infected others who were more than 6 feet away or shortly after the positive person left an area.

"In these instances, transmission occurred in poorly ventilated and enclosed spaces that often involved activities that caused heavier breathing, like singing or exercise.

"Such environments and activities may contribute to the build-up of virus-carrying particles."

In the statement, the agency further said that the latest update does not change its recommendations for protest against the virus by wearing masks, staying six feet apart and washing hands.~latest from DW newsreport elsewhere ~
