Puttur, Oct 4: Veteran freedom fighter and agriculturist Bolladi Ibrahim Haji (99), a resident of Bolladi in the village of Olamogru of the taluk passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 4 following a brief illness.
Ibrahim Haji had participated in the foot march in 1934 when Mahatma Gandhi had arrived in Puttur. He had walked till Bengaluru with Gandhi. Haji himself had said in an interview that he was hit by lathi during the protest that was held for freedom.
Haji was former member of Olamogru gram panchayat. He also served as former secretary of Shekhamale Jamaat. He promoted education and had taken the lead to resolve a land issue pertaining to the construction of a school. Ibrahim Haji used to participate in the farmers' movement even at his ripe age and was a member of Hasiru Sene of state farmers' association.
Ibrahim Haji is survived by four sons, two daughters and scores of admirers. His burial took place in the premises of Shekhamale mosque.
