Mangaluru, Oct 1: District Youth Congress and district Mahila Congress conducted candlelight protest opposite Mangaluru City Corporation on Thursday, October 1, condemning the gang rape that took place of the 19-year-old girl in Hathras on September 14. The agitated protestors had also blocked the road.
District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai on the matter said, "Rape victim succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment in Delhi on September 29. She had suffered multiple fractures, paralysis and a deep gash in her tongue. It was also reported that the police had denied the victim's family the right to hold last rites for their daughter. Yogi Adityanath should be ashamed to call himself Hindu who wears a saffron dress and defends the accused. It is an insult to the Hindus."
"We will fight and raise voice until justice is provided. We condemn the ruthless act where the accused men gang-raped the 19-year-old. We demand the resignation of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Today Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was detained and was pushed by the cops on the ground. People are looking forward to ending the reign of the BJP government. Uttar Pradesh cops manhandled Rahul Gandhi, this is a beginning of a war against Uttar Pradesh government. Yogi should come forward to apologize and we demand the accused in this case be hanged."
The protesters had also burnt the effigy of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
"The rape plus murder of the Dalit girl in UP has shocked the country. The silence of the majority should not be tolerated. We have to voice out against this crime, and our voices should reach the Prime Minister. We need an answer, we need justice. Daughters of India are not safe, the violence against women is on the rise. We need to address this issue that is the need of the hour," said Suhan Alva Youth leader.
