Mangaluru: Smart City works at Car Street - Traffic diversion ordered

Mangaluru, Oct 1: As Smart City works will be undertaken from Lord Venkataramana temple junction to Balaji Junction at Car Street here, vehicular traffic diversion has been ordered for 40 days from October 1 to November 29 as a temporary measure, said city police commissioner Vikas Kumar Vikash.

He said that buses moving on State Bank-Car Street-Kudroli-Mannagudda route have to move via clock tower, Hampankatta, K S Rao Road, Navbharat Circle, Dongerkery Road, New Chitra Junction and move towards Mannagudda. Movement of heavy goods vehicles traffic coming towards Navbharat Circle from New Chitra Junction has been banned. Till the work if completed, parking on both sides of the road from new Chitra Junction to Navbharat circle has been banned.

Heavy, light and other goods vehicles coming from Bunder have to move from Bunder Junction, Azizuddin Road, Lower Car Street, Balaji Junction, New Chitra Junction and Mannagudda. Vehicles moving towards Bunder via Lower Car Street from Ladyhill direction should take left turn at Durgamahal Junction and move via Ballalbagh Junction, Bunts Hostel, Hampankatta and A B Shetty circle. Parking of vehicles on both sides of the road from Srinivasa Hotel Junction to Om Mahal Junction has been banned till the work is concluded.

The police commissioner also issued a new notification declaring 61 spots in the city as no parking zones which include Balmatta, Falnir and Karangalpady.

    In this smart city development works existing parking areas are cancelled and all of the sudden no parking zone announced without providing parking areas.

    Instead of perpetually digging , good planning has to be done beforehand.Once a road is dug and repaired it should not be allowed to be touched for the next 10 years except for resurfacing which can be done at night.Proper ducts if placed below the road or footpath, could be used for drains, cables and utilities. Actually lockdown time could have been well utilized for completing all road works.There would have been no disturbance to the people and migrant workers would have got a job food shelter and money.

    i am fed up with mangalore city corporation's digging repairing, digging repairing, digging repairing every roads every year after year in people's tax w/ o thinking & planing. you mangalore city corporation is held responsible 4 spending citizen's tax money lavishly w/ o thinking & planing. shame on you idiots, when will u put a full stop on digging repairing, digging repairing, ....

    Very good decision. But whether it is only day time or night time also includes, statement not clear. If our Traffic department take this move seriously then it is well and good. Controlling city buses will be a problem.
