'Stern rule against those who flout social distancing norms' - Minister Dr K Sudhakar

Bengaluru, Sep 30 (IANS): In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, Karnataka Medical Education Minister, Dr K. Sudhakar on Tuesday warned that the state government would not hesitate to take action against those who flout social distancing protocols.

Karnataka has also decided to stop large public gatherings and restrict the gathering limit of participation to 100 people in the days to come, the minister said after a meeting with the high-level expert committee on Covid-19 at the Vidhana Soudha here.

Sudhakar also appealed to the people to wear masks and stressed on the importance of wearing protective gear to avoid spreading the virus.

"The entire world is amid the battle against fighting Covid-19, it is important to use masks... Without taking simple necessary measures to stay safe, how can any government fight a dreaded virus like Covid-19?" he wondered.

He said as Covid-19 cases are on the rise for the past two months in the state, Karnataka is keen to bring in a stern rule against those who flout the social distancing rules in public.

"A detailed directive will be out in a few days. Despite raising awareness regarding the dangers caused by the virus, the public is neglecting by not wearing masks," he explained.

According to him, political and religious gatherings were on the rise and people were attending in alarming numbers. "This is one of the reasons for the rapid spread of the virus. Hence, it has been decided to stop such large gatherings in the state," he said.

The minister further said that events that are supposed to be held in unavoidable circumstances like marriages will be allowed with only 100 people that too with prior permission from the district administration.

He added that the state government was planning to organise awareness programmes jointly by roping in film stars, religious heads, political leaders, and artists.

Noting that the Covid-19 positive rate in seven out of 11 districts was 12 per cent and the death rate in the state is at 1.5 per cent, Sudhakar said that by imposing tough measures, the state plans to reduce this to less than 1 per cent.

Minister sirji, well said than done. Tell me how many common people who go to the market either for their livelihood or for purchasing think about masks and social distancing? They can't afford to. Look at local buses, how can people maintain distance? Buses will not be able to get enough business if this rule is implemented, so they will flout it as much as they can, to get that little extra revenue.
We are claiming that our recovery rate is higher than daily cases, well it is good. But how many tests are done for a day? How authentic are these tests? Do we realize that common citizen like me, is scared and apprehensive to go to any hospital today because we are worried about corona tests & it's implications.
How easy is it for us to preach sitting inside a/c cabins, staying in a/c houses with huge lawns and gardens. It is equally or even more difficult for common man to survive sir.
Also please confirm if this rule is only for us or is it applicable to Politicians and their party workers, who are mostly seen flouting this rule during your meeting. It is not just for ruling party, it is applicable for every political party.!!

    Virus has become smarter....!!?
The virus had a timer to infect only after 9 PM
The virus had learnt calendar when holidays are there!
The virus has a distance awareness to infect if anybody gets closer
The virus has learnt mathematics to know the moment people cross 20, 50, & now 100 numbers
The virus has infected more than 50% of the people & it has become invisible with no symptoms
It is intelligent to know who are without any barriers on etc.

All said is correct. Corona is very serious and deadly. But flu is always flu, someway or the other one will get infected. It has to come and go. Only It can be delayed but there is always chances of infection till everyone gets immunity to it.

Face masks, social distance, vaccines very much needed but need to know other side of it.

Interesting very apt article and on face masks how left communist chinese and their cronies in the west take advantage of it

Mr. Minister. This is just empty, hollow and useless talk. Just come out of your airconditioned office or house and see for yourself the reality in the market. It makes no sense whatsoever to make statements which have no connection with the facts. Buses, in the mornings and evenings, are jam packed and not many are even thinking of social distancing, leave alone wearing masks. What nonsense are you talking Mr. Minister? Your government itself has announced that seats don't need to be left vacant in the buses. Street vendors and the shopkeepers are least interested in wearing masks and no policeman is around to take action against anyone. Is it any wonder, then that people are not observing any social distancing and is it any wonder that cases are going through the roof. Instead, admit with folded hands that this government has failed miserably in controlling the pandemic. The people, unfortunately, have to pay a heavy price for the failure of this goernment.
