Panaji, Sep 28: Goa state government will start massive recruitment in various departments from January, chief minister Pramod Sawant said. He added that the New Education Policy would be implemented in the state from 2021.

"We have stopped recruitments till December 2020, but we will start recruitments in government departments in a big way," Sawant said. According to sources, nearly 5000 vacancies will be filled since it is election year in 2022. The chief minister also said that the government is taking steps to generate private employments in the state.

Welcoming the New Education Policy, Sawant said that since the policy encourages mother tongue, the state has not opposed that.

"We support and promote education in the mother tongue, and we are of the opinion that primary education should be in mother tongue," Sawant said.

Speaking on the revenue collection of the state, Sawant said, "When I became CM, the total state loan was around Rs 20,240 crore. I have taken a loan of Rs 2,500 crore, but repaid Rs 3,500 crore. Sawant said that study is being conducted to put the financial state in place by March 2021.

He further said that the state has continued providing welfare schemes despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic.
