Puttur, Sep 26: As there was a sudden spurt in the demand for the government English medium schools, the then coalition government had started nine Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) in Dakshina Kannada district, and eight in Udupi district. The government had released funds for disbursement of salaries to the guest lecturers working in these schools from April 2020 onwards, but the salaries have not been paid to them so far.

In KPS schools, arrangements have been made to teach in English medium right from LKG. For LKG and UKG classes, the government has appointed guest lecturers and an assistant (ayah). The government releases ten months salary of these persons at a time and deposits the same to the accounts of the schools. The heads of these schools have to disburse the salaries. This time too the money has been deposited into the school accounts but the department has restrained the school heads from the disbursement of salaries through a circular.
Principals of these schools say that all the staff including guest lecturers and ayahs have been attending schools and discharging duties regularly but because schools did not start on account of coronavirus infection, their pay has been withheld. Till the government clears disbursal of their salaries, the heads of these schools are helpless.
In-charge deputy director of public instruction of Dakshina Kannada district, Manjula, said that salaries to guest lecturers and ayahs could not be paid from April in view of the government circular.
