Udupi, Sep 26: As the state continues to reel from excessive rainfall and flood situation, compensation will be disbursed for the reconstruction of destroyed houses, and also for repairs. Compensation as per the order dated August 7, 2020, will also be sanctioned for repair of houses and to those who lost their household goods, the government has said in a recent order.
The central government had, as per the state disaster response force and national disaster response force guidelines, fixed Rs 3,800 as compensation for the affected families for procuring clothes and things of daily use. The state government has contributed Rs 6,200 on its own, taking the eligible compensation amount to Rs 10,000.
If more than 75 percent or the entire house has collapsed due to floods, instead of the Rs 95,100 fixed as per central guidance order, Rs five lac would be given to the affected families. In case of houses with 25 to 75 percent damage, Rs three lac would be given. In case the damage is between 15 and 25 percent and the damage is minimal, Rs 50,000 would be given as compensation, the revised order said.
Hundreds of houses were damaged in the recent heavy rains. As the central flood relief guidelines came to an end in August this year, those who lost houses due to floods in September were eligible for maximum compensation of Rs 95,100 only. At the request made by chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, to extend the order of old flood relief to this month, the concerned have accepted his request and the people who lost their houses will get maximum compensation of Rs five lac, said MLA K Raghupathi Bhat.
