Udupi, Sep 25: Student from here, Ishitha Achar, who is a member of the scouts and guides, had made face masks during the Covid lockdown time. She had sent the masks for the use of soldiers guarding the border through the defence minister, Rajnath Singh. Now, Rajnath Singh has sent to her a personal letter, expressing his elation at her noble talk. He has expressed gratitude to Ishitha for sending the masks for the use of soldiers.
Ishitha is the daughter of Girish Achar and Nanditha Achar couple from Ambalpady here. She is an eighth standard student of Madhava Kripa English Medium School Manipal. She actively participates in all the activities of Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Bharat Scouts and Guides had announced a mask bank campaign for SSLC students in April - May this year. The high school students were to make masks for the purpose. By the time Ishitha made 300 masks and handed them over, already sufficient masks had been collected. Therefore, someone suggested her to send the masks to the Indian Army.
Ishitha's mother, Nanditha Achar, packed the masks in a separate envelope, found the office address of the defence minister, and sent the same with the request to supply them to soldiers guarding the Indian border. The masks were sent on August 18. On September 23, the family received a letter written by Rajnath Singh.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Ishitha expressed happiness about the fact that the defence minister took time to write a personal letter to her in appreciation for sending the masks. She said she never expected such a gesture. Ishitha said she was inspired by Bharat Scouts and Guides as well as her parents.
"I love to read novels. I have provided some masks I made to relatives. As online classes are on now, I could not make masks. My mother helped me in stitching. I am very happy to have received the letter from the central minister," she said.
