Mangaluru, Sep 24: Renowned scholar, Alhaj P M Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal (71), a resident of Poodal in Naringana village, who was the composite Qazi for Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Shivamogga districts, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city on Thursday September 24.
He has left behind wife, three sons, two daughters, and scores of relatives and well wishers. The scholar, popularly known with the name, 'Bekal Ustad', was the state president of Sunni Jamiyyatul Ulema and principal of Jamia Saadia Arabia Shariyat College. He was a member of the Samastha Ulema Union's central Mushawar, and chief editor of the publication, Al Ansar.
Bekal Ustad had secured his degree from Deoband Arabic College. He had served at Soorinje and Bantwal mosques for two years each. Thereafter, he was serving as Mudarris at Bekal since the last 43 years, and came to be widely known as 'Bekal Ustad'.
The scholar was born in 1949 as the son of Muhammed and Khadeeja couple at Poodal in Naringana village, Bantwal taluk. After studying in a school at D G Katte in Naringana village till seventh standard, he turned his interest towards religious education. In recognition of his unmatched service to religious sector, he had been conferred with the 'Tajul Fukahal'.
Bekal Ustad had deep knowledge about Kifarah and astronomy.
