Mangaluru: Former MLA J R Lobo urges MESCOM to extend time for consumers to pay power bills

Mangaluru, Sep 22: Former MLA J R Lobo on Tuesday September 22, submitted a memorandum to MESCOM office in Kavoor urging them to extend the time period for consumers to pay their pending electricity bill amounts.

It may be recalled, MESCOM had issued public notice asking consumers to pay pending electricity bill amounts within September 21 or else electricity supply will be suspended.

The former MLA in the memorandum stated, “Today, people are facing tough situation due to the coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, people have lost their jobs. There are natural calamities. As per Epidemic Disease Act, the government should take a sensible decision. This is a very inhuman act by MESCOM to warn consumers over the paying of electricity bill amount.

“Any department should give one month notice, but MESCOM have given media statement a day earlier and acted irresponsibly. MESCOM should stand in favour of people in this tough situation. We condemn the anti-people stand taken by them. There are several occupants in houses under medical treatment and in this situation suspending
electricity supply will be a problem.

“Many corona patients are getting treated in their respective houses. If power supply is suspended in those houses, it will be a cruel act by MESCOM.

“Due to treatment at house and some in quarantine, people will not venture outside for long and it will be difficult for them to pay electricity bills.

“We demand that MESCOM should not suspend electricity for two months. The department should look into which consumers are capable to pay bills or not. Depending on that, the department should make way for them to voluntarily pay the bill amounts. Some relaxation has to be done regarding the payment of bill through online. Electricity bill given by MESCOM does not carry proper details in it. This should be rectified,” stated the memorandum.

Trust me Mr. Lobo, it wont work. Mescom doesnt care. I went to request them atleast let me pay in two installments, they refused and came to cut the power. They dont care if you got your salaries or if how corona has affected your livelihood.

A very Good move taken by former MLA J R Lobo urging MESCOM to extend time for consumers to pay power bills. This was the need of the hour on humanitarian ground.I appreciate it.Same time, even schools, colleges have pressurized the parents to pay school fees in spite of having not opened schools and colleges. Some parents have already paid the fees fearing their children will be debarred from the school.Inhumane act by the schools and college management.
Now people are under terrible worries, tensions due to corona virus pandemic. Some have lost their jobs, some have not received their salaries and so many other problems people are facing now.
Besides, private hospitals are looting the public in the corona virus but all elected representatives,MLAs,MPs are closing their eyes without taking any action, they are just watching the fun.

Good work. The elected mlas are not bothered about people suffering and busy posing for social media.Instead of wasting money on SMART CITY projects they should help people who are suffering. Even Banks have started to torture for paying EMIs. No Business No Job. They should have extended Loan Moratorium till Dec.
