Mangaluru, Sep 22: Southwest monsoon rains have continued to pound Dakshina Kannada (DK) district but the intensity has come down a bit. Places like Beltangady, Kadaba and Sullia tlauks which are located at the foot of the Western Ghats, as well as Puttur and Vittal located in rural belt of the district are getting intermittent rains.

The city and surrounding areas are experiencing cloudy weather with bouts of heavy showers in between. Early in the morning, there was some sunshine accompanied by light showers. An orange alert has been sounded in the district.

As the floods in rivers Falguni, Nandini and Shambhavi have receded, the people have been relieved of some tension. People, who had sought shelter in gruel centres opened near Mulky because of flood, have gone back to their homes. The district administration said that 199.2 hectares of agricultural land was thoroughly damaged in this rain.
