Udupi, Sep 21: Torrential rains which have been pounding the district for some time have given rise to floods. Now, one more such disaster is waiting to happen, a landslide is now posing danger to the commercial and residential building Premier Enclave located in Manipal.
Taking cognisance of the situation, CMC commissioner Anand Kallolikar, engineer Mohanraj, NHAI engineer visited and examined the spot. The landslide occurred on Monday morning and now has caused a deep cave in the spot.
The building has 8+2 floors which include 32 flats. Talking on the matter, Kallolikar said, "The district deputy commissioner has instructed to vacate the building as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Mohanraj stated that the building is built on pile foundation and if a crack appears on the wall before 24 hours, it is could pose a serious risk.
To prevent issues, the 2 km road stretch from Indrali junction to Manipal, has been turned into one-way. Police also placed barricades along the road.
The locals also opined that the continuous rainfall that been wreaking havoc in the district could have very well caused the landslide.
