Mangaluru, Sep 21: President of state BJP and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel accused the opposition parties that they are opposing farmer-friendly act as they patronize middlemen, who used to cheat farmers.
In a series of tweets on this subject, Nalin wrote, "For the first time in Independent India, farmers can sell their produce for good rate, without the menace of middlemen, in any part of the country. Minimum support price will continue and the farmers can get the price they want for their produce by entering into direct agreement with food producing industries.
"Entrepreneurs, who buy the crop, have to provide the required machinery to the farmers. They need to give the farmers suitable advice. In addition, they have to bear total or partial loss, in case the crop gets lost.
"The union government has brought this farmer-friendly act in order to protect the farmers from selling their produce at places other than APMCs also. However, the opposition parties, who are pro-middlemen and buyers, are opposing this act,” tweeted Nalin.
