Kochi, Sep 21: Intelligence Bureau in a report stated that the state of Kerala has turned out to be a safe haven for the terrorists. As per a report by Military Intelligence which was published five years ago, terrorists and Maoists have settled in Kerala under the guise of migrant workers.
Many Maoists and terrorists were nabbed from migrant workers’ camp during police raids. Strangely, further raids and investigation about such groups were discontinued. As migrant workers have great demand in Kerala, people who have links with terrorist and Maoist groups consider Kerala as safe territory for them, stated the Intelligence Bureau.
Since police inspections are not effective in the migrant workers' camps, Intelligence believes that the terrorists and Maoists have been operating under this disguise. Furthermore, when hiring workers Keralites do not necessarily conduct any background verifications make it even easier for these terror groups to blend in.
On September 2015, Military Intelligence had alerted the state intelligence department that Kerala has turned out to be a refuge for terrorist groups. Following this, raids were carried across the state.
This also led to the arrest of Maoist leader Jitendra Oraon, organiser of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army in Jharkhand from Angamaly. It was revealed that Jitendra was working at one of the companies in Champannoor industrial area.
Soon after Jitendra's arrest, a special team of police nabbed Bodoland terrorist Libion Basumatary from a camp of Assam workers in Kozhikode. He was the commander of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) a banned terrorist group in Assam. All the arrests were carried from the data submitted by the Intelligence.
Back in 2007, Andhra Police Intelligence had arrested People’s War Group Maoist leader Malla Raja Reddy and his wife Beecha Gana from Angamaly. Reddy and his family were reported to have been residing in Kanjirakkad in Perumbavoor.
