Mangaluru: Principal of St Sebastian College Fr Edwin Mascarenhas passes away

Mangaluru, Sep 20: Fr Edwin Cyril Mascarenhas, principal of St Sebastian PU and Degree College, Permannur, and parish priest of Mariashram, Talapady, passed away on Sunday September 20 after a brief illness. He was 57.

Born on July 9, 1963 to Maurice and Faustine Mascarenhas, Fr Edwin was a native of Kelmbet.

He was ordained priest on May 7, 1991.

He served as assistant parish priest of Shirva, Omzoor and Bendore parishes between 1991 and 1997, before taking charge as parish priest of Petri.

He was appointed headmaster of St Joseph institution in Bidar in 1999, and served as its principal from 2001 to 2003, before being appointed principal of St Antony PU College, Naravi.

In 2005, he was appointed parish priest of Anegudde, and later served as principal of Permannur College, Mariashram.

The funeral will be held at his home parish Kelmbet on Sunday at 4 pm, sources said.

A great Loss to the Diocese of Mangalore and Education field . He was a simple but committed, hardworking priest ,a silent worker.
Being closely associated with Fr. Edwin I know how he slogged to establish PU College and later degree college at remote place like Naravi.. Then at Anegudde a newly erected parish , the challenges faced to establish and develop it.. in the initial stages. He did it efficiently.
May the Almihty grant strength to the beloved family members to accept the loss of Fr. Edwin. May His Soul Rest In Peace.

Today, God has taken away, one of the nine gems Of Mascarenhas Clan of Kelmbet (Navaratnas - 9 priests, who are grandsons of my uncle) to place it in a suitable place in heaven. My heart hurts knowing that Fr. Edwin has passed away. To his brothers and sisters, I say "Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences, at this most sorrowful time". Fr. Fr Edwin was my good friend and he was an active member of Catholic PU Principals' Association in Mangalore. Remember meeting him on many occasions. He was a very loving and affectionate person. Always thought of how to help students and staff at St Sebastian PU College. Remember attending the Annual Day over there. May God give you eternal rest dear Fr Edwin.
