Bengaluru, Sep 19: Heavy rains coupled with thunder are likely to pound the state on September 20 due to low pressure in Bay of Bengal. As a result, red alert has been declared in the coastal and Malnad region of the state.
Heavy rains are expected in Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts from September 20 to September 22. As very torrential rain is likely on September 20 and September 21 in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga district, red alert has been declared.
Yellow alert has been declared in Bagalakote, Belagavi, Haveri, Dharawada, Gadag, Koppala, Kalaburgi and most of the other districts on September 20 and September 21.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea as wind with speeds of about 55 kilometres is likely to hit the coast.
Gabboor in Raichur and Mangaluru airport area experienced the highest rainfall of eight centimetres during 24 hours from 8.30 am of September 19. The rainfall in Mangaluru, Mani and Panambur was seven centimetres each. Rainfall in Moodbidri and Bhagamandala of Kodagu was five centimetres each.
Udupi district disaster management authority has issued Red alert in Udupi district on September 21 and September 22. Red alert has been declared both in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada for two days and yellow alert on September 23.
