Udupi, Sep 19: Christan Almeida has been appointed the national coordinator for National Students' Union of India (NSUI) from Karnataka.
NSUI is the student wing of Indian National Congress. The official list of appointees was announced on Saturday September 19.
Christan Almeida is currently the president of NSUI branch of Udupi district.
Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of central advisory committee and NSUI national president Neeraj Kundan have approved the appointment of Christan Almeida as the national coordinator for NSUI.
Almeida has earlier served as president of ICYM Mudarangadi unit. He also worked as the booth president of Mudarangadi. He has been the president of NSUI Udupi district since 2017.
Under the banner of NSUI, Almeida conducted various social and student-friendly programmes. The NSUI Udupi unit was the first to start agitating the exit scheme in VTU. Almeida had even filed a petition in Karnataka high court for the same.
NSUI celebrated every festive occasion with the orphanage children of Udupi district. The cancellation of online exams by a university recently following agitation by students was a massive campaign conducted by NSUI Udupi unit under the leadership of Christan Almeida.
