Mangaluru, Sep 19: City police commissioner Vikash Kumar on Saturday September 19 confirmed the arrest of dancer-actor Kishore Shetty and another person for possession of drugs.
Addressing a press meet here, the police commissioner informed that along with Kulai resident Kishore Aman Shetty (30), a person identified as Aqeel Nausheel (28), a resident of Suratkal, had also been arrested for possessing MDMA (methylene droxy methamphetamine), which is banned as it is harmful for the health.
"The CCB police arrested the accused this morning. They had brought the drugs from Mumbai and were trying to sell it in Mangaluru," the commissioner said.
The police seized MDMA, a Bajaj Discovery bike, and two mobile phones, altogether worth Rs 1 lac.
"Aqeel was working abroad as a safety officer. He returned here last year and used to buy drugs from cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru and sell it here. The other accused, Kishore Aman Shetty, is a well-known dancer and choreographer who had won prize in the Dence India Dance TVlreality show and acted in HIndi movie. He also bagged prize in a dance copettion in Suvarna Kannada channel.
"Along with Aqeel, Kishore also was involved in selling MDMA for quick money. Both have been arrested for drug peddling and consumption," the commissioner said.
"We will investigate the drugs connection to Mumbai and track the complete link, and will take action against whoever is involved in it.
"We also have information of the involvement of the arrangement of parties and we will further look into it," he added.
He further said that the police will seek custody of the accused and trace all possible drug networks connected to the case.
"The case has been registered under NDPS Act, and all aspects will be investigated. We have already received a few clues," the police commissioner said.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of police commissoner Vikash Kumar, by CCB inspector Shivaprakash, R Naik, economic narcotics inspector Ramakrishna, CCB PSI Kabbalraj and others.
The police have asked people having any information about drugs peddling in the city to convey the same to police control room 100/0824-2220800 and share whatever information they have. The identity and other details the informers would be kept confidential, the police commisisoner said.
