Udupi, Sep 19: Robbers flashed a knife at a two-wheeler rider and robbed him of cash and mobile phone on Saturday September 19.
The incident happened at around 4.30 am on the highway in front of Indrali petrol bunk industrial area.
The victim, identified as Nitesh Devadiga, is employed at the government polytechnic.
He was coming in a scooter from the railway station when two persons who arrived in a bike intercepted him, attacked him, and robbed him of cash worth Rs 19,000 and mobile phone. He lost Rs 15,000 in cash which he had kept aside for his fishing business along with his mobile phone and another Rs 4000 that was kept inside the mobile cover.
Nitesh Devadiga was injured on the chest in the incident.
Manipal police have registered a case and investigation is on.
In another incident that happened at around 5:15 am near Alevoor, Guddeangadi area, the same two persons surrounded the bike rider Yatheendra (29), an employee of MTNL, Manipal and robbed him in the same manner. Yatheendra lost his mobile phone, and a bag containing other documents of his work. The miscreants injured Yatheendra with a screw driver on his chest. A case has been registered at Manipal police station.
Both these incidents of robbery happened within a gap of one hour and in both incidents the robbers used the same technique. They stopped the bike riders to ask directions to Manipal. The spot where these incidents took place are also within a radius of around 2-3 km.
Manipal police circle inspector Manjunath revealed that the police have information about a team of robbers having descended on the town with the view of conducting criminal activities. He said that CCTV footage would be pooled together and studied. He also assured to launch operations to find out the robbers and bring them to book.
