Kasargod, Sep 19: Minister for culture in Kerala government, A K Balan, dedicated the long-awaited Kerala Tulu Bhavana to the world online on Friday September 18.
The building has been built near Manjeshwar Hosangady. Kerala revenue minister, E Chandrasekharan, presided over the inaugural function. The Bhavana has been named after Dr Vakataraja Puninchathaya, founder president of the academy.
The library was inaugurated by local MLA, M C Qamaruddin, while the auditorium was inaugurated by zilla panchayat president, A G C Basheer. Manjeshwar block panchayayat president, A K M Ashraf, initiated online Tulu script learning programme. A Tulu documentary on COVID control was released by K R Jayananda, secretary of Manjeshwar Govinda Pai Memorial Committee. A special edition of quarterly magazine, 'Tembere' was released by handing over a copy of the same to Umesh M Salian, president, Kerala Tulu Academy.
District collector, Dr D Sajith Babu, zilla panchayat member, Harshad, panchayat member, Shyla Balakrishnan, Tulu Academy secretary, B Pradeep Kumar, and other members were present. Political leaders, B V Rajan, Muhammed D M K and other guests were present.

The then chief mister, V S Achutanandan, had initiated Kerala Tulu Academy on September 3, 2007. Site was earmarked for the Tulu Bhavana near Manjeshwar Hosangady and grant was set aside. Foundation stone for the building was laid by Keral assembly speaker, P Sriramakrishnan, on February 27, 2019.
Thee are plans to have Tulu research centre and museum in the second phase, and Tulu cultural centre in the third.
