Udupi, Sep 17: In a big relief to the family members of the elderly woman from Udupi who had gone missing at Kuwait International Airport, and was later found to have been in the custody of Kuwait CID police, has now been cleared of charges, thanks to the timely intervention of Kuwait Indian Embassy and the volunteers of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association.
As per latest update, the 63-year-old Girija, whose identity had not been revealed earlier due to legal issues, will board the next flight to India on Wednesday, September 23. She will arrive at Mangaluru airport via Bengaluru.

It is learnt that after receiving a complaint of going 'absconding' from her employer, the Kuwait CID police detained Girija from Kuwait International Airport while she was completing her immigration formalities along with visa cancelation. After getting a boarding pass she sent a voice message to her relatives in India in which she stated that she would complete the immigration process soon. Thereafter she did not respond to any of the messages or calls over the phone. Later it came to light that during the immigration clearance process, the CID police all of a sudden took her into custody.
With the support of social worker Manjeshwar Mohandas Kamath, Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association Magnet Group member Abdul Lathif Sheida took the initiative to assist her in legal matters and brought her issue to the attention of the Indian embassy. Responding to the issue, Sibi George, Indian ambassador acted promptly and produced all legal documents to release Girija. From India, Dr Aarthi Krishnan, former vice-charman of NRI Forum also put in diplomatic efforts to secure the elderly woman's release.
Wilson D'Souza, former president of Tulukoota, Kuwait, Shashidhar Shetty, Kenjoor from Bahrain arranged return tickets for Girija.
The family members of Girija thanked the Kuwait police, the Indian embassy, Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association and everyone who helped in getting Girija released from legal charges. They also thanked daijiworld for highlighting the issue.
