New Delhi, Sep 16: The Kuwait government has now made the rules stricter for non-resident engineers of Indian origin planning to work there. The norms have been tightened on account of mischief played by someone.
A marks card submitted by an Indian engineer to bag employment in Kuwait just before the lockdown was found to be forged. The Kuwait government which was alerted, made rules stricter for all the Indian engineers at the time of visa renewals.
As per the new rules, the engineers have to pool all the marks cards for all the semesters, and submit certified copies to Kuwait Society of Engineeers. After the society issues no objection certificate, the engineers will be allowed to work as engineers in Kuwait.
The problem is many do not have marks cards of all the years and it is not easy to put them togther afresh, get them certified, and submit the same. Till such verification process is completed, the visas of engineers are not renewed and they will remain on temporary visas. Those on temporary visas cannot get their rental agreements renewed, working in company will be harder, and getting a driving licence is not possible. Many affected engineers say that if they visit their homeland during the temporary visa period, they might not be able to return to Kuwait.
About 4,000 Indian engineers have written a letter to the Indian embassy office on Tuesday September 15 through the Indian Engineers Forum, seeking to intervene and sort out the problem. Former vice-president of NRI Indians Forum Karnataka, Dr Arathi Krishna, said she has spoken to the officials of Indian embassy about the problem. She said that the Indian ministry of foreign affairs will have to intervene in the matter.
