Both the ruling BJP and JD(S) are yet to name their candidates for the seat for which the dates for the by-election have not been announced by the Election Commission so far.
KPCC President D K Shivakumar chaired a meeting with leaders of the Tumakuru district Congress Committee and all leaders have decided to nominate Jayachandra in the by-election.
The by-election in the constituency would be fought under the leadership of former KPCC president and former Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara.
This will be the first by-election to be fought by the State Congress unit after the appointment of D K Shivakumar as the KPCC President.
Former MLA K N Rajanna has been named as the co-chairman of the campaign committee, Shivakumar said.
The Election Commission of India is expected to fix the date for by-poll soon.
