Mangaluru: No proposal to shift income-tax office to Goa, says MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Sep 16: Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath on Wednesday September 16 allayed fears about the shifting of income-tax (I-T) office from Mangaluru to Goa and said that no such proposal has been made.

"There is no proposal to shift the income-tax office from Mangaluru to Goa or merge it with the office in Goa," Kamath said.

Over the last few days, there have been reports about proposed move to shift the I-T office in Mangaluru to Goa. Various bodies such as KCCI and the opposition parties had appealed the government against going ahead with the move as it would cause hardships to taxpayers in Mangaluru and around.

"The I-T office in Mangaluru has a principal commissioner, and so does the I-T office in Goa. There is a proposal to combine both the designations and appoint one principal commissioner. Under the circumstances, only the position of principal commissioner of Mangaluru may get shifted to Goa. But the news that the entire office in Mangaluru is getting merged with the office in Goa is far from truth," he clarified.

"A large amount of income is being generated within the limits of the income-tax department in Mangaluru. It is a centre that brings more than Rs 4,000 crore income from Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district limits. Therefore, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel has written to union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, union minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Prahlad Joshi explaining to them the situation. I have also spoken to Sadananda Gowda and Prahlad Joshi and I am trying my best to retain the principal income tax commissioner's office here,” he said.

Lambasting the opposition Congress over the issue, he said, "The news is being spread as if the entire income tax office is getting shifted to Goa. It is a conspiracy by the Congress to gain political mileage. Congress is spreading false news that the taxpayers from Mangaluru will have to go to Goa in the future. It is not right to spread false news."

This aspect should have been clarified in the beginning itself to avoid chaotic situation. What prevented our MLA to act like this. Should have been prompt.

He is lying. It was central govt's proposal to eventually centralize all IT offices of the country to average out revenues from all local offices. BJP ruled states are economically very poor so this will not single out a single BJP area or state which is not generating enough revenue. This system will definitely come if BJP rule continues. This was only a dip stick to check people's reaction.

In another BJP v BJP battle, our own elected MLA Vedavyas Kamath comes out victorious over selected Karnataka RS MP FM Nirmala Sitaraman. Kamath is a good man - needs to head up to Cabinet rank to do real good work for the whole country.

Any of DW readers are dealing with matters related to IT ? A service provider I know, was in Goa last week, to sort out matters related to IT. Now, I don't know whom to believe - the service provider, or Mr. Vedvyas Kamath.

Whatever it is, we the people of Mangalore need localized IT office and a Commissioner to attend to complicated matters. If he will sit in Goa, the matter is as difficult as having IT office in Goa itself. Hope our political representatives won't do matters worse for us people of Karnataka.

As I have mentioned earlier also, due to faceless and anonymous assessment and scrutiny, the work related to Mangalore etc. will be done from a distant place say UP or Orissa, one need not go to the Income Tax office as everything will be online.Honest taxpayers will welcome the move and the location of the IT office will be immaterial. No more corruption and bribes. The department has so many tools that it would be difficult and foolish to hide black money.

Who knows the BJP might have spread false news about shifting the IT office to Goa and now the elected representatives from DK are doing as if they have stop the shifting of the IT office to Goa. Only fooling people of DK and trying to cover up the failure during the lockdown and pandemic.
Only diverting people's mind towards another news.

How to have faith with the elected govt if the govt refuses to answer questions and hold press conference. What are we suppose to believe and trust unless it has been clearly stated?????Until such time the govt is untransparent, dishonest and fake. It a basic simple fact.

Rathan Mangalore, how do you know that I'm wrong or false. The very Government promised to get back black money but no result I mean a big failure and fooled the country with the ₹ 15 lakhs promise. Do you trust the Government, what have you got from this Government only lies and fake promises.
This Government instead of controlling covid 19 in the first three months of 2020 they were intrested in Namaste Trump and toppling the government in MP. Do you trust this Government, it is only a fake Government.

Greedy and self centered people keep talking about Rs 15 lakhs.Indian voters have no doubt on the character or geniuness of Modi. Otherwise they would not have voted him back to power in 2019, inspite of repeated by hoarse crying by oppostion leaders and disgruntled people who carry their opposition, for reasons not related to work and honesty but for other personal reasons.

    Karuna,

I agree, it's wrong to expect 15 Lakh. However, do you ever wonder what happened to that money Mr. Modi said is stacked in Swiss Bank ? Oh yes, by the previous government. If he didn't find it there, did he care to take his words back and apologize for misleading the masses ? When he didn't, how do you think people continue to trust him ? Voting for him again in 2019 is a continued hope that he will bring the money back (though there were no hopes that he will distribute it) but see what happened now - instead of bringing the money from outside, even our own assets are sold. Independent India's GDP was recorded negative just once before this (in 1957-58) - do you believe that Covid-19 is the sole reason for this fall ? How did it reach to 4.5% July-Sept 2019 ? Was Covid-19 rampant in 2019 too ??

It's OK to admire him Karuna, but please be logical when it comes to the nation's economic well being.
