Led by SP, Udupi police conduct surprise drive against traffic violation, fine offenders

Udupi, Sep 14: The Udupi police personnel, who have been acting against drug menace on a war-footing, on Monday September 14 launched a surprise drive against traffic violators.

Led by superintendent of police (SP) Vishnuvardhan, the police registered a number of cases and collected fines from traffic violators in a span of four hours from 4 pm onwards.

SP Vishnuvardhan himself inspected vehicles at Kalsanka junction. Additional SP Kumarchandra, traffic SI Abdul Khader and other police officials were part of the drive.

Similar drives were conducted at other prominent areas such as Ambagilu junction, Manipal, Indrali, and city bus stand.

Youngsters who had installed coloured lights on their vehicles for fashion were taken to task by the SP.

Police checked vehicles and commuters for high beam lights, helmets, driving licenses and so on, and violators were approprately fined.

As many as 80 cases of traffic violations were registered and fine of Rs 40,000 was collected.

Under Udupi city police station, 35 cases were registered and Rs 25,000 collected in fines.

"We will be conducting such surprise drives to check traffic offences every day and book cases against violators," said the SP.

The traffic violators were warned and allowed to go free after they paid the fine.

    All fleet vehicles it may it be buses or trucks are exempted under these surprise violation drives . For they pay the dept. bribes periodically to continue violation of laws.
    Hence, there are also a lot of KA**G**** department vehicles who don't have even normal hazard/stop lights. So to all individual vehicle owners use a torch while driving/riding. Jai Hind.

    There must eb strict action against people who overspped Who do not wear seat belts Who drive in wrong way etc. This is the root cuase of many accidents. Overspeeding and drunken driving has to be checked. Unless urgent actions are taken many people will suffer due to accidents in Karnataka state. We must be very careful against these accidents. Good move from traffic police to check accidents. We must stand up against traffic violations and punish the guilty. I am sure in course of time if strict actions are taken against traffic violationsUdupi will be accident free.May Udupi be a accident free District.

    Police should check buses also for multiple lights, they don't even dim the lights instead flicker them to blind the others.

    Why can't they raid these car accessories shop that sells these items ? I know a few in mangalore and udupi that have been minting money selling these kind of high beam lights and flash lights totally blinding the on coming driver...!!!

    Qhrer are the surprise checks on the government, wonder does God or the devil conduct them, government vehicles itself have additional lights and so on, rather then doing their jobs of providing proper roads and proper lighting they are going about about penalizing ppl for taking care of themselves

    How can the traffic, cmc and municipal ppl be fined and punished? Who audits and declares roads safe? The state of roads in mangalore and udupi are horrible and yet they seem to harass the public

    Would request the administration to please handle to Parking situation between Syndicate Bank and CMC Udupi buildings on KM Marg during peak hours.
    Most 4 wheeler parking spots are taken up by 2 wheelers and the 4 wheelers, especially cars, ends up parking/stopping dangerously on the road blocking the free traffic flow towards CMC Udupi.

    For our police, changing the lights of vehicles is serious violation.. i dont understand a govt bus are using 6-8 lights with high beam, whats wrong if a car or bike owner change his vehicles bulb.. govt cant fix lights on roads but fine the headlights upgraders...

    Most vehicles as of now BS6 varients are equipped with head lamp LED lights as standard from factory, the issue is some older bikes & cars (BS4 ) varient still rely on halogen lamp so they install extra LED flashing lights to grab attention that you see most of cars today & so called twin fog lamps on motorcycl guard for better visibility. some ppl do custom wrapping on cars with different colours, custom color won't get insurance if vehicle meets with accident also if he / she wants to change colour of their car or bike they can legally do it through RTO after which new RC is issued because colour has changed.
