Udupi: Govt doctors on agitation - Reports, certain services to be suspended if demands not met

Udupi, Sep 14: Doctors in Karnataka will go on strike from September 21 over non-fulfillment of various demands including wage revision. As a result, certain services and issual of coronavirus reports will be suspended.

Karnataka State Medical Officers' Association president Dr H Prakash Kumar Shetty on Monday September 14 said that the medical officers of Karnataka had, during the last 12 years, repeatedly demanded for wage revision and placed several other justified demands of the medical officers before the government.

"Even though we have given them enough time, the government has failed to act on them. Therefore, from September 15 onward, we have decided, in phases, to suspend submission of COVID and other reports being submitted to the government and suspend some services," he said.

Addressing a press meet held at the Press Club here, he noted that doctors functioning under the medical education department are getting pay as per the seventh pay commission while wage revision has not been done in respect of government doctors.

"We will stay away from submission of online replorts and participating in government meetings. If the government does not respond till September 20, from September 21, we will suspend all other servicess except emergency service. On September 22, we will hold 'Bengaluru Chalo' protest and place our rightful demand before the government," he explained.

He reasoned that because of less salary, young doctors opt to work in private hospitals and therefore there is a shortage of government doctors.

Secretary of the association, Dr K Naraismha Nayak, vice president, Dr Umesh Nayak, Dr Goplal S G, Ranjith and Pratap Kumar were present.

    My appeal to the Government,please pay just wages to the doctors. After God they are the saviours of our life. During this difficult times they have dared to risk their family and lives to COVID infection and good number of them have succumbed to the infection. Please give heed to the just demand of the doctors. We need them, our country needs them.

    Private doctors are not willing to take the risk. We are all dependent on Govt doctors during pandemic and they are poorly paid and underprotected.
