Bengaluru, Sep 14: Ragini Dwivedi, the Kannada actress who was arrested in the ongoing Sandalwood drug racket was made to undergo a drug test at the KC General Hospital in Bengaluru. As per police sources, Ragini has tampered with the urine sample. A report by India Today states that she allegedly mixed water in her urine sample in order to make it unfit for testing.
Earlier in the month, Ragini Dwivedi became the first actress to be arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in the Sandalwood drug racket.
Although the actress tampered with the first urine sample, she could not hoodwink the police. After realising what Ragini had done the police asked her to give a second urine sample, the report states.
"The urine sample was tampered and the doctors immediately caught this. They realised that water was mixed in it. She was then asked to give another sample," said a police source, as quoted in the report.
The officials also took hair follicle samples of Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa Galrani. Their samples were sent for testing to a lab in Hyderabad. According to police, the specific test can detect if a person had consumed drugs in the last four to five months.
The results of the medical tests are likely to reveal significant evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The actress who has been arrested in the case, Sanjjanaa Galrani was also taken for her medical test. Sanjjanaa was accused of creating chaos at the hospital voicing her fundamental right to say no to the test. She further maintained that she was being used as a scapegoat in this situation and claimed to have no connection in the drug racket.
Ragini was close to Ravi Shankar, who is one of the accused in the case. Based on a lead from Ravi Shankar, her house was raided after which she was taken into custody. Similarly, Sanjjanaa was close friends with Rahul, another accused in the case.
As of now, over seven people have been arrested by the Bengaluru Crime Branch including actors Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa.
