Exemplary: Indian in UAE returns bag containing $14,000, gold; honoured by Dubai police

Dubai, Sep 13 (Agencies): The honesty of an Indian expat shone through the dark times the world is going through, as he returned an unattended bag containing $14,000 in cash and gold worth 200,000 dirhams to the police here on Saturday September 12.

Retesh James Gupta handed over the bag to the Al Qusais police station after finding it unattended.

Gupta, who lives in Dubai, was praised by the Dubai police for his honesty and awarded with a certificate of appreciation for being a responsible resident, Gulf News reported.

Senior police officers presented him with a certificate of appreciation for alerting the authorities and highlighted their keenness to strengthen the concept of community partnership.

Gupta too thanked the Dubai police for the recognition, adding that the gesture gave him pride and joy.

The bag he returned to the police contained USD 14,000 cash and gold worth 200,000 dirhams (USD 54,452).

Brigadier Yousef Abdullah Salim Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais police station, awarded Gupta at the police station and emphasised the importance of collaboration between the community and police.

It was not immediately known who the owner of the bag was.

    In Dubai city, almost there is no place which is not covered by CCTv. So if the any person reports a loss of bag or briefcase, it is easy to identify the person who has picked it up. Except in some industrial areas.
    It is wise of the person to hand over the money and gold to the police.

    Shanker mangalore,Camera is one thing,and honesty is another.Here we should respect his honesty and with all the contents in it.So long till now no owner is till now claimed the contents or noone given missing bag by police,no question here of cctv.Salute to the finder and bringing in Police station.How it is in Dubai I dont know,but here ,suppose no owner claims the bag, till 6months .most one year,,then the bag belongs to the finder.suppose the owner claims his bag ,after giving a notice by Police,the owner has to pay some percentage of contents.

    Rita, for me honesty is circumstantial. If I get a bag full of money and gold bars in Dubai, I will hand over it to police. If the same happens in India, I might think otherwise. The fear of law also plays a very important role in one's honesty.
    I am being very honest here in my opinion.

    @Shakara,

    You are fortunate to have your name sounds like nationalist..., Otherwise I am not sure about the response by the law keeping forces of Hindustan. I see a potential anti-hindustsn quotient in your answer...
    It's good that b'coz of your name and probable bias to one particular ideology..., you are immuned and safe...!!!

    Correct me if you have second best view or counter view...
