Mangaluru, Sep 13: The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is being held across the country on Sunday, September 13 amid strict health protocol in the face of Covid-19 pandemic. As per reports, over 15 lac students have registered for the examination.
Around 1.19 lac students in Karnataka have registered for NEET this year. There are around nine exam centres in Karnataka, including Mangaluru.
In Mangaluru, students appeared for NEET at Sharada Vidyalaya.
Earlier in the month JEE main was held across the country. The National Testing Agency (NTA), the governing body which is conducting the exam has laid down certain precautionary measures amid the pandemic. This includes an increase in the number of examination centres and a reduced number of students in the examination room.
Due to the pandemic prevailing across the country, the examination which was scheduled on May 3 was rescheduled twice, first on July 26 and then to September 13. There was intense opposition by the students against holding the exams amid coronavirus, however, the exam date was not moved.
As per health guidelines, candidates arriving will be required to carry their personal hand sanitizer, water in a transparent bottle, wear masks and gloves.
Speaking on the occasion, union minister for education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank extended his best wishes to the candidates.
"My best wishes to all the NEET candidates who will be writing the exam today. I believe that the NEET candidates will also follow the corona guidelines, like JEE candidates and write their examination with complete patience, self-control and self-confidence," the minister said.
Udupi
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted in eight centres in Udupi district on Sunday, September 13. Amid the Covid scare, the examination committee took proper measures of sanitizing the classrooms, conducting thermal checks and making sure social distancing is followed.
Over 2,861 students registered for the exam from all over the district, of which 1,002 students did not appear for the test. As per data, only 1,859 students were present to write the examination.
There were no corona-positive patients who appeared for the test in the district and the exams were conducted smoothly.
