Mangaluru, Sep 13: Working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Saleem Ahmed on Sunday September 13 lashed out at the BJP regime in the state and said that the government had 'completely failed' in tackling the coronavirus pandemic and maintaining law and order.
Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here, Saleem Ahmed said, "Coronavirus pandemic has been spreading across the state for the past six months. The state government has completely failed in controlling the pandemic and there is no proper coordination among ministers either.
"Even the law and order and the intelligence department have failed in handling the DG Halli riots and the drugs issue. Action should be taken against whoever was involved in these," he added.
"We (Congress) have alleged Rs 2,000-crore corruption in the handling of coronavirus equipment but we did not get any answer from the BJP.
"When the Assembly session begins on September 21, we will take up issues such as drug menace, failure of law and order, APMC ordinance, floods and Covid. We condemn the move to shift the income tax (I-T) office from Mangaluru to Goa. The government should take steps to stop this move," he demanded.
"I am conducting a tour of Mandya, Mysuru and Dakshina Kannada in order to strengthen the party and review 'Arogya Hasta' programme. Party representatives will visit houses and conduct thermal scanning and oxymeter tests with the help of doctors. 'Arogya Hasta' programme is taking place in Dakshina Kannada as well.
"We are preparing for gram panchayat elections in the district and are confident of winning a majority of seats. We are strengthening our party at booth and block levels," Ahmed said.
Regarding leadership concerns with the national Congress, he said, "There has been no reshuffle for the past three years. It is a natural process and all are given opportunity. There is no question of any senior leaders being sidelined."
MLA U T Khader, MLC Ivan D'Souza and others were present.
