Puttur, Sep 12: Sadashiva Marike, a farmer from Santyar in the taluk, has set aside land that is enough to grow crops for self use. In the remaining portion of the land, he has raised thick forest as a measure of concern for the environment.
Sadashiva stands out from the rest who deliver lectures about the environment from different forums and then forget about it altogether. Environmental destruction keeps happening regularly.
Sadashiva has inherited property. The land he deems excess has been earmarked to grow forest. In a vast land, he has a forest which contains trees and other vegetation which have naturally grown, and also trees which he has planted and grown.
His love for the environment comes out as unique among people, most of whom use every piece of available land to either convert as commercial property or to grow cash crops. The forest he has grown has provided support to birds and animals. His initiative has also contributed to enrichment of underground water table not only in his land but also in the neighbouring land.
