Bengaluru: Karnataka declares 130 taluks as flood-hit in 23 districts

Bengaluru, Sep 11: After a brief respite rain fury has resumed in the state. Heavy rainfall during July had threatened Kodagu, Malnad area, coastal districts, Belagavi, Bagalkot and Vijayapura in north Karnataka with the risk of floods. The rain had washed away several houses in Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Bagalkot and Belagavi districts. Landslide at a hillock in Kodagu had erased an entire family living downstream.

The state government has now released a list of flood-hit taluks. The government has declared 130 taluks spread over 23 districts as flood-hit. Most of the taluks in Mandya, Davanagere, Uttara Kannada, Chamarajanagar, Koppal, Raichur, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadagiri, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have been declared as devastated by floods.

Hosanagar, Bhadravathi, Sagar, Thirthahalli, Sorab, Shikaripur and Shivamogga taluks of Shivamogga district, Koppa, Chikkamagaluru, Sringeri, Mudigere, N R Pura, and Tarikere taluks in Chikkamgaluru district, Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet taluks of Kodagu, Bantwal, Beltangady, Kabada, Mangaluru, Moodbidri, and Puttur taluks of Dakshina Kannada district have been grouped having been affected by the flood.

Byndoor, Brahmavar, Hebri, Kaup, Karkala, Kundapur and Udupi taluks of Udupi district, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Karwar, Kumta, Sirsi, Ankola, Mundgod, Siddapur, Supa and Yallapur taluks of Uttara Kannada district, Nyamathi, Honnali, Harihar taluks of Davanagere district, Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district, Alur, Arkalgud, Belur, Hasan and Sakleshpur taluks of Hasan district, Alnavar, Dharwad, Hubballi, Hubballi city, Kalaghatagi, Kadagol and Navalgund taluks of Dharwad district, as well as Hangal, Haveri, Hirekerur, Ranebannur, Rattihalli and Shiggaon taluks of Haveri district, have been listed as flood-hit.

Mundaragi, Nargund, Ron and Shirahatti in Gadag district, Babaleshwar, Kolhar, Muddebihal, and Nidagundi taluks of Vijayapura district, Gangavathi, Koppal and Karatagi in Koppal district, K R Pet in Mandya, Hunsur. K R Nagar, Mysuru and Periyalpatna taluks of Mysuru district, and most taluks of Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Yadagiri, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Ballari district have been announced as flood-affected.

The government has directed the respective deputy commissioners to undertake relief works in taluks declared as flood-hit as per the national disaster response force and state response force guidelines.
