Udupi, Sep 11: Dinesh Shettigar, a science teacher of the high school section of Hebri Government PU College who has been recognised as a model teacher in the entire district as far as imparting of education in Maths and Science is concerned, has been chosen for the state-level best teacher award.
Shettigar, son of Vittal Shettigar and Meenakshi hails from Parkala.
Shettigar has put in 32 years of service. He had started his profession at Hiriadka Junior College. Later he served at Ajekar Jyothi High School and Manipal PU College after which he has been serving at Hebri Government High School as a science teacher.
Under his guidance, students from this school have won awards on a regular basis between 1998 and 2019 in the state-level children's science meets by presenting projects. He set up a Maths laboratory in the school this year where he himself created some models on maps by spending from his pocket, some models made by the children and also those provided by the government. He is the convener of Science Council Udupi district and has received several awards from different organisations and institutions including his own education department.
Award-winning teacher Dinesh Shettigar feels that the award has brought additional responsibility in addition to making him happy. He said that he enjoys his job as a teacher and said that activity-based learning gives rise to interest in the minds of the children towards the subjects and creates interest in them to learn more. He says that this paves way for a brighter future of the students.
