Mangaluru, Sep 10: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra, stated that enough oxygen is being supplied to the hospitals in the district and that there is no problem on this front. He called upon the people not to unnecessarily worry over this issue.
He was addressing a meeting of the district level monitoring committee with the participation of oxygen suppliers on Wednesday September 9.
"The district administration will be extending all kinds of support and assistance needed by oxygen manufacturing units to make sure that government and private hospitals in Dakshina Kannada get oxygen supply without any break. Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd has been instructed to see that these units get power supply without any hitch," he clarified.
Dr Rajendra noted that raw materials for oxygen units are now being supplied from Palakkad, Kerala. He said that raw materials are also available at Toranagallu in Ballari district and said he would hold consultation with the deputy commissioner of that district and make sure that raw materials are supplied to the district from there.
He asked oxygen manufacturing units to supply oxygen to government and private hospitals on priority, and attend to the demands of industrial units only after meeting this demand.
Assistant drug controller Ramakanth, and entrepreneurs running oxygen manufacturing units were present.
Land to be reserved for waste disposal
Presiding over a meeting of different taskforce committees of Karnataka State Pollution Control on Wednesday, the DC asked the concerned to see that land is set aside for locating waste disposal units at Kadaba, Someshwar, Vittal and Kotekar town panchayats which have newly come into being.
He said that garbage disposal units in cities and towns should be scientifically set up at places needing landfill. He asked all the urban local bodies to pay attention to this requirement on priority. He stated that preparations to manage the garbage disposal at Pachanady in an organic way have been made. He stated that detailed project report is under preparation towards providing compensation for the victims of the tragedy which happened there last year. He asked the pollution control board to direct local bodies and urban planning authorities to identify buffer zones for waste disposal. In these buffer zones, no layouts or house constructions should be allowed, he suggested.
Member secretary of the district legal services authority and judge A J Shilpa, city corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar, urban development project director Gayatri Nayak, and pollution control board officer Keerti Kumar were present.
