Udupi, Sep 9: Even after 20 days since the death of Raksha (26), a resident of Indiranagar Kukkikatte here, whose family has charged the doctors of medical negligence, the district administration is yet to receive the preliminary report. Even though the home minister Basavaraj Bommai had ordered a probe by the criminal investigation department (CID), no probe has begun.
Rakha, who was suffering from migraine had got herself treated at Mission Hospital near her home on August 21 for headache. Her condition deteriorated within an hour of being treated and she breathed her last. Her husband and locals had expressed anger at the medical negligence and held a protest.
As the public anger at the incident increased, deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha had formed a team led by the district health officer, with instruction to file the report within four days. Laer, MLA K Raghupati Bhat had said that as per Supreme Court directives in cases of medical negligence, the inquiry will be held by seven specialised doctors and a report would be provided within five days. A medical team led by Dr Chandrashekhar Adiga of the district hospital was formed. But the team does not seem to have made any headway in the investigation.
The CID is yet to take up the investigation. Even the team has not been formed, it is learnt. The family members say none have contacted them for primary questioning or to put together information.
A twitter campaign for justice for Raksha has been launched. There is widespread anger at the neglect and demand for early investigation is increasing. Thousands of people have shared the post on Tuesday, September 8.
Director general of police, Praveen Sood had claimed that CID had taken up the probe. District health officer, Sudhir Chandra Sooda says that the post mortem report is yet to be received and a team of specialised doctors appointed by the deputy commissioner is investigating. He said that it might take two weeks for the forensic laboratory report to arrive.
