Kasargod, Sep 9: The protest held on Wednesday September 9 by activists of Youth Congress of the district for not handing over the murder cases of youth Congress activists Kripesh and Sharathlal to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) turned violent at the district crime branch office. Seven policemen, including a DySP and more than 10 activists of Congress suffered injuries in the protest.
The protesters, who went in procession from Vidyanagara, tried to remove the barricades placed by police. During the scuffle, police used water cannons to disperse the protesters. When the crowd did not budge, they used tear gas. Protesters resorted to stone pelting at the police during which the police had to use lathi-charge. Police beat youth Congress district president Pradeep Kumar black and blue. Seven police personnel including DySP Balakarishnan Nair got injured by the stones pelted by the activists.
In addition to DySP, police personnel Sujit, Ranjith, Naveen, Shivaprasad, D Thomas and Prakash got injured. Youth Congress had organized protest as the crime branch has still not handed over the case diary of the murdered Congress activists to the CBI, though the court has already passed an order to this effect.
The protest was inaugurated by state youth Congress vice president Rijin Makutti. District president B P Pradeep Kumar presided over the protest meeting. Congress leaders like P K Faizal, P V Suresh and Balakrishna Periya were present.
