Mangaluru, Sep 9: The management of Mangalore University has served notice to its assistant professor in the department of sociology, Prof Govindaraju, seeking an explanation from him on a Facebook post he had created on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The post could be interpreted in multiple ways.
The post Prof Govindaraju created on Facebook, reads thus, "I am proud to be a teacher because drawing a good salary without work, risk." Many who went through this post had criticised him besides sharing the post through tweets and WhatsApp statuses for being insensitive.

Those who participated in discussions said that many teachers are losing their jobs because of coronavirus, while several others are either not getting salaries or being paid only a part of the salary. Still they are working hard. It is improper to make such posts at this hour of crisis, some said.
After the Facebook post came to the notice of the university management, it served notice on the professor, seeking his response in seven days. Vice chancellor of the university Prof P S Yadapadithaya, said that the concerned has been asked not to create such posts henceforth and to delete the post already created. "He also has made a post ridiculing a swamiji. It is improper for the people in responsible pubic positions to upload such posts," he said.
