Sulla, Sep 9: Sullia block Congress had organized a meeting of party workers at Yuvajana Samyukta Mandali here in the backdrop of the coming gram panchayat elections. At the meeting, differences within the party poured out into the open.
Speaking on the occasion, former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Venkappa Gowda, urged the leaders to build the party from the grass root level. At this, party leader, Dhananjaya Adpangaya, rose to his feet and pointed out that he has been involved with party organization since the last 36 years. "Even when the Congress legislators got elected in other constituencies in the district, the party leaders could not ensure victory for the party candidates in Sullia," he pointed out. Gowda retorted by saying that the margin of defeat this time was only about 1,300 votes.
It is said that district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, struck truce between the two warring leaders later.
Sullia block Congress president Jayaprakash, presided over the meeting. The meeting, it is learnt, was cut short on account of this altercation.
