Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 3: The Dasara festival is round the corner. The public is eager to celebrate the same as the coronavirus has brought in a lot of financial hardships and also for the fact that people would like to have some fun and frolic amidst the continuous stress of many months.

Demands are being heard from the public to allow the grand Dasara celebration to be held in Mysuru as well as Mangaluru. Mangaluru Dasara is likely to be held from October 17. All preparations are on to hold the Dasara in the city along with the grand procession. The committee is waiting for the green signal from the government and also the guidelines for the same.

Speaking on the subject, Padmaraj treasurer of Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara temple said, "Our country gives importance to festivals. The public is stressed out because of the coronavirus pandemic. Mangaluru Dasara, which was the dream of former union minister Janardhana Poojary is world famous now. Our devotees, as well as administrative committee members, are committed to conducting the Dasara celebration this year also and is not being done through government sponsorship.

"We will also try to hold the grand Dasara procession keeping in mind the guidelines which will be issued by the government. Dasara is going to start on October 17. There is 45 days time now. We are going to appeal regarding this soon with the state government. We are hopeful that the government will oblige. We are going to submit our appeal through our district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary," he said.

"Dasara will generate employment for many people and all hotels will be booked. So indirectly Dasara generates business to the public. So stopping this procession and celebration will inflict more financial loss to the people. We need to live with coronavirus. Religious festivals should take place as usual. We request the government to take the right action in this direction," he stressed.

I hope this is a joke. People are dying, Udupi district ICU beds are full, health care workers are risking their lives and you want to hold a gathering of thousands of people to celebrate? Me being a big fan of Mangalore Dussera am highly against this. I hope you don't put business before public health. Money can be made tomorrow if you are alive. This will completely negate the lockdown and the hardship people have gone through because cases will immediately jump 10 times in the city. All these days of staying in lockdown will be a waste.

I am a Bhakta of Sharada Devi and Kudroli Temple. But personally I feel that at least this year everyone must be very care full . Government has given may conditions but when crowd comes to the Temple, it will difficult to control. This year let them celebrate inside the Temple and only committee members must perform the Pooja. If Corona virus will spread after that gathering, who is responsible.???. Surely God will give better chance and facilities next year to celebrate in grand manners. This is my personal opinion.

Dasara Celebrations this year may have to be a low profile as Covid cases are increasing drastically in our city. None of the Festivals were celebrated in a grand manner this year starting from Easter for Catholics, Eid for Muslims, Nagarapanchami, Ashtami n ganesh chathurthi for Hindus. So there is always a next time to celebrate, there is never another life for a human being. Let us be thoughtful while we decide on anything. It can be done in a low profile to ensure Poojas are done, but open for public will be too risky I feel.
Yes we do agree it generates a lot of revenue to the city, employment to the local. But then all Industries which did this are dying a slow death. Say Travel n Tourism, Hotel and Hospitality, Air Lines and aviation, Cruise Industry - every single industry generated huge number of employment, huge revenue to our city. But then they are all lying low because of the situation. If situation improves we can always have our Festivities in great grandeur in the future as well. !!

    No celebrations this year.
When no feasts were not allowed Dadara also shouldn't be allowed because the crowd is too much .
At th his moment no celebrations should be done where
This year . Give that money to poor people who have suffered from corona & have no jobs

In the interest of public health, I think the celebration should be curtailed to a minimum ritual. Karnataka is one of the 4 states where Covid-19 is at its peak, and any celebrations of crowding would further endanger the whole city and surrounding areas of this pandemic.
