Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 3: In yet another major spike, Dakshina Kannada on Thursday September 3 recorded 316 new cases and three deaths, while Udupi reported 226 cases and four deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 13,795 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,705 are currently active. A total of 1,01,272 samples have been tested so far, out of which 87,477 are negative.
As many as 10,706 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 208 on Thursday. A total of 384 deaths have occurred so far, including three on Thursday.
Among the 316 new cases, 54 are primary contacts, 129 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 13 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 120 cases are under investigation. As many as 134 out of the 316 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 190 are from Mangaluru, 40 from Bantwal, 21 from Puttur, 16 each from Sullia and Beltangady and 33 are from outside DK district.
All the three patients who died on Thursday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported two deaths, one death was reported from outside DK district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,896 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 93 fresh admissions on Thursday, while a total of 5,247 people are in home isolation, including 133 new on Thursday.
As many as 9,929 people, including 328 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,760 from hospital isolation wards, and 4,169 from home isolation.
A total of 74,284 samples have been collected so far, including 1,028 on Thursday, out of which 784 are COVID suspects and 91 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 61,868 have turned out to be negative, including 893 on Thursday, and 266 reports are awaited.
As many as 12,150 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 226 on Thursday, and 2,115 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 106 deaths have occurred so far including four on Thursday.
The four deaths were reported on Thursday. They were a male aged 84 from Karkala, a 46-year-old male from Kundapur, and a male aged 65 and female aged 45, both from Udupi. All had comorbidities.
Among the 226 new cases, 137 are in Udupi, 59 in Kundapur, 25 in Karkala, and five from outside the district. Among them, 121 acquired the virus through contacts, 68 have ILI, eight have been diagnosed with SARI, and 27 are under investigation. One each have domestic and international travelling history. Out of the 226 cases, 108 are asymptomatic.
