Kundapur, Sep 3: "Dedicated BJP leaders are going to join Congress after the gram panchayat elections. Discussions in this respect are already over. Just wait," said former MLA Gopal Poojary.
Responding to the joining of BJP by former Congress leader Alur Manjaiah Shetty, Gopal Poojary said, "Manjaiah Shetty has tried to twist the reality. He has contested in two zilla panchayat and one taluk panchayat elections, winning twice and losing once by a margin of 80 votes. Due to that frustration he has spoken ill about Congress workers.
"Winning and losing in elections is natural. I have won as well as got defeated in elections. But it is not right on the part of Manjaiah to complain about Congress workers. They worked to their level best in zilla panchayat elections. So it is not right on the part of Manjaiah to give such a statement after getting defeated by a meagre margin of 80 votes. Just because he got defeated, it is not right to blame Congress workers.
"Manjaiah is enticed by the BJP. He has benefitted immensely from the Congress party. Congress will not lose anything by his defection. I will work with the new activists of the Congress party of that area and build the party again,” he said.
Gopal Poojary's sensational statement has created waves in the BJP of the taluk also.
