Mangaluru, Sep 3: The commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has issued an information to hotels, restaurants, apartments associations, resident welfare associations, hostels, commercial complexes, police stations, as well as private and government office buildings within the city corporation limits, seeking their active role in controlling the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

"The city corporation as well as the district administration have been carrying out different activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the city. The state government has taken a number of measures to prevent the spread of this disease, which includes effective tracing and quarantining of coronavirus positive persons and their contacts. As the incidence of COVID-19 cases is increasing within the city corporation limits, reporting primary contacts and secondary contacts gains significance in respect of each positive case that is reported. People in close contact with infected people are at a higher risk of becoming infected and potentially further infect others. Keeping a close watch on these contacts after exposure to an infected person helps the contacts to get proper care and treatment, thus preventing further transmission of the virus," the commissioner said.

Accordingly, he has informed the hotels and restaurants, apartment/flat owners associations, resident welfare associations, hostels, commercial complexes, police stations, as well as private and government office buildings that they need to cooperate with the city corporation for contact tracing and successful enforcement of home quarantine of primary contacts. He noted that the success of these steps depend on the active support and participation of the citizens and the society.

At the same time, the commissioner has advised to take due care not to violate legal rights of the members or commit anything that is unlawful. "In case of any doubt or requirement of assistance, the representatives or members of these entities can seek help through city corporation helpline or control room in the deputy commissioner's office," he added. The city corporation commissioner has stressed that this advisory seeking cooperation and support has been issued to arrest COVID-19 outbreak.
