Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 1: In a major spike, Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday September 1 recorded 352 new cases and seven deaths, while Udupi reported 161 cases and two deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 13,065 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,538 are currently active. A total of 97,852 samples have been tested so far, out of which 84,787 are negative.
As many as 10,152 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 363 on Tuesday. A total of 375 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Tuesday.
Among the 352 new cases, 51 are primary contacts, 136 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 17 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 148 cases are under investigation. As many as 180 out of the 352 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 165 are from Mangaluru, 87 from Bantwal, 42 from Puttur, 19 from Sullia, 25 from Beltangady and 14 are from outside DK district.
All the seven patients who died on Tuesday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported four deaths, Puttur reported two deaths, and one was from outside DK district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,742 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 39 fresh admissions on Tuesday, while a total of 5,008 people are in home isolation, including 122 new on Tuesday.
As many as 9,351 people, including 250 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,561 from hospital isolation wards, and 3,790 from home isolation.
A total of 72,285 samples have been collected so far, including 930 on Tuesday, out of which 641 are COVID suspects and 167 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 60,163 have turned out to be negative, including 576 on Tuesday, and 365 reports are awaited.
As many as 11,757 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 161 on Tuesday, and 2,307 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 99 deaths have occurred so far including two on Tuesday.
The two deaths reported on Tuesday were of a female from Udupi aged 78 and a male aged 53 from Karkala. Both had comorbidities.
Among the 161 new cases, 85 are in Udupi, 57 in Kundapur, 13 in Karkala, and six from outside the district. Among them, 43 acquired the virus through contacts, 81 have ILI, three have been diagnosed with SARI, and 26 are under investigation. Eight have domestic travelling history. Out of the 161 cases, 64 are asymptomatic.
